CDF educates the nation about the needs of children and encourages preventive investments before they get sick or into trouble, drop out of school, or suffer family breakdown. CDF began in 1973 and is a private, nonprofit organization supported by foundation and corporate grants and individual donations. We have never taken government funds. Nature and Scope The Children’s Defense Fund-Texas works to ensure that all children become healthy, self-sustaining adults.  We maximize our impact by working in collaboration with the national CDF office to develop innovative programs, build coalitions and shape public policy.     Position Summary The Dallas Program Coordinator will expand CDF’s programs into the Dallas area.   The position will be responsible for launching the Beat the Odds® scholarship program in Dallas, including raising awareness about the scholarship through Dallas schools, developing a scholarship selection committee with high level community leaders and planning a community celebration to recognize students.   The Dallas Program Coordinator will facilitate Dallas area youth involvement in CDF national leadership programs, including the Young Adult Leaders Training (YALT), and will maintain follow up with CDF Beat the Odds scholarship participants.   The Dallas Program Coordinator will also work in collaboration with community based organizations to implement CDF programs and priorities in Dallas and North Texas, including campaigns to enroll uninsured children in health coverage, raise awareness about the need to dismantle the Cradle to Prison Pipeline and expand the CDF Freedom Schools ® program in Dallas.   Core Responsibilities     Work with CDF-Texas Advisory Board members and community partners to implement the Beat the Odds scholarship program in Dallas, which provides college scholarships to students who have overcome tremendous adversity while giving back to their communities and demonstrating academic excellence.   Engage educators and community leaders to inform schools and key stakeholders about the scholarship fund. Support BTO Selection Committee Chair in communicating with and managing selection committee’s efforts review applications and interview potential scholars. Work with the Beat the Odds event Chairperson and CDF-Texas Advisory Board members to plan an annual community celebration event to recognize students. Maintain follow up with Beat the Odds scholarship participants as they attend college and after graduation. Facilitate Dallas area youth involvement in CDF national leadership programs, including Young Adult Leaders Training (YALT). Serve as a liaison to SHOUT/SPROUT chapters at local high schools, colleges and universities, providing training and technical assistance as needed. Work in collaboration with CDF-Texas Advisory Board members and community based organizations to implement CDF programs and priorities in Dallas and North Texas, including campaigns to enroll uninsured children in health coverage, raise awareness about the need to dismantle the Cradle to Prison Pipeline and expand the CDF Freedom Schools ® program in Dallas. Assist with additional CDF activities and special events as needed including annual Back to School and Stand for Children events and the National Observance of Children’s Sabbaths. Serve as CDF’s liaison to community, business, faith leaders and elected officials in the Dallas/North area. Mobilize, train and follow up with volunteers in the Dallas/North Texas area to support CDF programs and priorities. Serve as a CDF spokesperson to the print, radio and television media in Dallas and North Texas.   Qualifications   Five years experience in community organizing, program coordination, constituent outreach, and coalition-building Commitment to and knowledge of CDF issue areas Demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of children and families Detail oriented and able to think creatively and take initiative Ability to manage projects from start to finish with close attention to detail Ability to organize workflow, meet frequent deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously Excellent meeting and group dynamic facilitation skills Ability to interact with diverse communities Ability to translate complex concepts into easily understood language Flexibility and willingness to participate as part of a team Graduate degree or equivalent experience is preferred Excellent writing and strong computer skills   To apply please submit cover letter and resume online at www.childrensdefense.org/jobs .   The Children’s Defense Fund is an Equal Opportunity Employer
